Best Gel Polish: OPI GelColor

Olivia Rodrigo. Victoria Monét. Emma Stone. Coco Jones. Ariana Greenblatt. Madison Beer. All of these stars rocked OPI GelColor this awards season. “The polishes are smooth yet highly pigmented, making thin layers possible, which creates a more elegant look,” says Emi Kudo, who used a blend of Funny Bunny and Samoan Sand to create a custom creamy peach shade for Stone’s Critics’ Choice mani. Fellow nail pro Sreynin Peng created Jones’s Grammy look with a combination of the shades Samoan Sand, $elf Made, *Verified*, Snatch’d Silver, and Gliterally Shimmer. “The spring collection from OPI was a perfect fit for Coco’s nail look, as it brought out the warmth of her outfit’s blue-green hue,” says Peng.

Best Polish: Essie Gel Couture

Although gel polish is a go-to for red carpet looks, traditional lacquers also made an appearance this season. One of Hollywood’s go-to nail artists Tom Bachik turned to the essie gel couture collection in the berry-pink shade V.I.Please to give Selena Gomez a SAGs manicure that was both long-lasting and easy to remove. “I love the rich, high-gloss consistency the gel couture line of colors gives me. Plus, this polish doesn’t require a base coat, which “not only saves time in the application but also the dry time — a must when time is a factor.”

The Colorist: Matt Rez

Instagram / @colorbymattrez

«Think of a celebrity, and Matt Rez is their go-to. With clients spanning Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Adele, Dua Lipa, Lili Reinhart, and Penélope Cruz, it’s clear Rez is the talent behind the sparkling dimension and beautiful tones on every red carpet. The best part? He also continues to make time in his busy schedule for non-celebrities who fell in love with him and his work years ago (myself included). Since I first sat in Rez’s chair almost a decade ago, I’ve never been able to see another colorist. I am a loyal Matt Rez girl through and through. He just gets it and gets me, and his kind disposition and incredible talent makes the process a true joy. There is no one who deserves the accolades more than him. The five hours spent hanging and marinating in the chair are just as fun, fulfilling, and gratifying as walking away with the blonde of my dreams. He’s magic!» — Hallie Gould, editor in chief

The Hairstylist: Nai’vasha Grace

Instagram / @naivashaintl

«That one of Nai’vasha Grace’s most famous clients—Tracee Ellis Ross—is pretty much synonymous with ‘fabulous hair that never looks the same twice’ tells you everything you need to know about her expert skill as a stylist. She’s given Lily Gladstone glamorous screen siren waves at Cannes, helped Alexandra Shipp go coquette with a bow-accented braided ponytail, and created the perfect tribal braid-‘fro combo for singer Nabiyah Be—and that’s just this year. While the styles she creates are versatile, they all have a few things in common: impeccable craft, innovation, and a certain regality. Her work really puts the ‘crown’ in ‘crowning glory.'»— Eden Stuart, editor

The Esthetician: Elizabeth Grace Hand

StalleStudios.com

«Elizabeth Grace Hand has it all—incredible talent (her massage is otherworldly), top-tier modalities, all my favorite brands (Sofie Pavitt Face, Bioeffect, and Retrouvé to name a few), and a sun-drenched studio to die for. Her facials are mind bending and effective, and she is one of the most fun people to chat with for a full 90 minutes. At Ställe Studios, every facial is customized to your needs, and it’s Hand’s knowledge of product and technique that is the driving force for each skin and sculpt success story. She started working with Dr. Barbara Sturm (another favorite, of course) and ultimately opened up her own studio after doing facials outside of her one-bedroom apartment. She uses the Kagan method of massage, which is amazing for depuffing, and believe me when I tell you that you’ll melt under her hands.» — Hallie Gould, editor in chief

The Nail Artist: Tom Bachik

Instagram / @tombachik

«We like to joke at Byrdie that we are tombachik.com because of how much we pay attention to (and cover) Bachik’s impeccable manicures. As the go-to manicurist for Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello, and more, Bachik always perfectly fuses classic glamour with the coolest trends, always paired with a catchy moniker. But he’s not just following the trends. The ‘rich girl’ and butter yellow trends are all him, and he skyrocketed lip gloss nails when it was spotted on J.Lo. If you’re ever looking for a fresh take on nude nails or the perfect subtle shimmer, there’s only one man for the job.» — Bella Cacciatore, news editor

The Makeup Artist: Keita Moore

Instagram / @kilprity

«When I first sat in Keita Moore’s chair at a beauty event, I knew he was special. It wasn’t until he finished my makeup that I realized how special his artistry truly is. The same hands that touched my face (more than once!) have also touched the faces of some of your favorite celebrities like Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae, Yara Shahidi, Iman, and so many more. His journey from working at MAC Cosmetics to leading the makeup for magazine cover shoots, red carpets, and campaigns is truly inspiring, and from his step-by-step tutorials to beauty breakdowns, I constantly find myself taking notes. His attention to detail and innovation, especially when creating flawless looks on Black and brown skin, is truly craftsmanship and proves that makeup is art, which is what makes him one of the most sought-after makeup artists.» — Jasmine Phillips, social media editor

Best Retinol Body Serum

A lot of skin-care questions tend to have the same answer: vitamin A. While it’s been a hero ingredient in skin care for quite some time, vitamin A has recently become more common in body care, too helping address those same concerns that you have on your face on your body. Why wouldn’t you want your limbs to match the smoothness of your face and neck?

The most powerful skin-smoothing ingredients are incorporated into this beautiful Nécessarie’s Body Retinol Formula ($55), all of which work together to stimulate collagen production to firm up saggy areas—like around the knees and the arms—while getting rid of dullness. This retinol-packed body product also helps smooth the skin by adding moisture and preventing moisture from leaving your skin.

Best Facial in a Jar

As soon as you open the lid of Ole Henriksen’s Dewtopia 25% AHA + PHA Flash Facial Exfoliating Face Mask ($50) you are hit by a delicious lemon scent, like a freshly-baked lemon drizzle cake, and the pearlescent texture makes the formula look good enough to eat, too. The mask is a thick consistency with a gorgeous opal-like shimmer, and with just one finger scoop, you can cover your entire face in this radiance-enhancing goodness.

The formula in Ole Henriksen’s Dewtopia mask leans on the brand’s highest concentration of acids—packed with glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and hyaluronic acid—to tackle dullness, discoloration and uneven texture. The best part is that the mask works immediately and over time, garnering results that you’ll notice right away with even more drastic improvements happening after each use. For many, the formula has a slight warming effect and creates a tingling sensation for a minute or so as the powerful ingredients work together quickly to tackle stubborn dead skin cells, leaving your skin with a fresh and exfoliated feel and that coveted post-facial glow.

Best Multistick

Multitasking makeup products are supposed to help streamline your routine, but sometimes that comes at the cost of the product’s texture, pigment or overall quality. However, that is not the case for Mango People’s Multistick ($27), which has the most elegant, creamy texture that feels hydrating on the skin while providing striking color. Although it has a thick, balmy feel at first, the formula is easy to blend, making it simple to work with on the eyelids, lips and cheeks. A South Asian–owned makeup brand, the Mango People line is based on Ayurvedic ingredients and adaptogens and all products in the line were created with shades meant to flatter a wide range of skin tones without compromising on efficacy.

Initially, Mango People’s Multistick piqued our interest because of its sophisticated dark-green packaging and vibrant colors within the formula. The Mango People Multisticks are pigmented and buildable—with one to two swipes, you get opaque coverage, so you can go as bold as your heart desires with little effort. Although it looks matte in the tube, it has a subtle sheen finish that gives you a glowy, healthy look on the skin. And, as a lip product, it feels like a conditioning balm that locks in hydration, but the creamy consistency leaves behind a nice shine that doesn’t require lip gloss on top.

Due to its multi-purpose nature, there are plenty of ways to use this in your makeup routine, whether it’s a wash of color on your eyelid for instant eyeshadow, adding depth and dimension to your cheeks, or a vivid lip. For a bolder look, apply directly from the tube and use your fingers to blend and diffuse. For a softer, more natural look, use a brush to apply the cream. Because of its ability to blend seamlessly, it is a very forgiving product, so if you mess up, you can easily fix it, and although it has a long-lasting formulation, it’s best to set it in place with a translucent powder or a setting spray.

Best Muscle Soother

Serena Williams saw the opportunity to create a brand of recovery products that focused on performance care after going through the personal experience of trying to find products to help her through her aches and pains, and WILL Perform’s Fast-Acting Lidocaine Roll On Gel ($13) is a hero product for anyone who suffers from muscle soreness. Created for the everyday athlete, every part of this muscle-soothing stick is thought through, from the packaging to its ability to be infused into daily self-care rituals.

We took this line for a test and it immediately gained the approval of the NewBeauty team. Williams’ Pain Relief Lotion uses lidocaine—an ingredient that prevents pain by blocking the signals at the nerve endings in the skin—and the cream even blends lidocaine with a botanical blend that includes arnica to numb pain. There is a light fragrance with this roll-on gel, and upon application it immediately feels so good. This WILL Perform product applies with roller balls so you can put it directly where you need it without any mess, making it the perfect product to apply at night to help with tired, sore muscles before bed.

The Facial Sculptor: Joseph Carrillo

With certifications in sculptural face lifting, Kagan, gua sha, Bojin, facial cupping, and buccal massage, Corillo takes 90 blissful minutes to lift and sculpt my face, de-puff, slim, and ease tension (and the results last for up to a full week). It’s the first time I’ve ever invested in consistent and entirely manual treatments, and the difference in my face is tangible every time. His unique method, coined The SELF Method, is designed to work more than 40 muscles to tone your facial posture (which can prevent wrinkles, enhance your natural features, and encourage lymphatic drainage). His treatments are highly sought after and miraculous. I am a believer!» — Hallie Gould, editor in chief
